Two years ago, our school division started a grant program to start getting SMARTBoards and other technologies into classrooms. The first year, 10 teachers were selected out of our 2000 teachers to receive this technology and training over a three year period. Last year, the second year, 20 more teachers received either a SMARTBoard or an airliner, also with a commitment for 3 years of training. This program was supposed to expand for one more year, but funding ran out. One of my colleagues was accepted the first year and I was accepted into the program last year. Our administration felt that access to this equipment for all teachers was valuable so purchased two more SMARTBoards for general access locations in the school. My colleague is leaving on maternity leave next year which leaves only myself with any tech training on staff with 4 SBs. I would love to continue my training with the Ed Tech UNConference, but I would love to give the opportunity to two of my colleagues to learn alongside me as well, so that we can be three teachers who can share this knowledge instead of just one. In my school there are 16 classroom teachers and 7 support and specialist teachers. In my district there are about 600 teachers (and that is a rough guess).

Three free passes would be huge for my school. I am the new Technology Coach for our school (only guaranteed for one year) and I want to leave my staff with as much training and experience as possible. A resource, such as this–the EdTech UNconference–would provide my staff with continued support (from a different perspective) and professional development through the year. The recognized leaders that present and provide learning opportunities through the UNconference have already enhanced my own PLN and development–this would be another way to extend that to a few who need to get their feet wet.

We have about 28 teachers on staff at my school and probably close to 200 in the district.
While teaching overseas for a two year leave of absence, I had gotten very accustomed to teaching with technology… going so far as having a paperless class. After returning, I gave a professional development talk to my staff over the use of wikis, which turned out to be both a blessing and a curse: a blessing because it was embraced so well, a curse because the new demands on the limited computer labs made them nearly impossible to use. My school has a good start, & it is filled with a wonderful staff willing to consider and embrace new methods.
For us to move forward, I think we need to do two things. First I think we increase demand on the district. The more teachers want to use the technology, the more they will advocate for their students’ needs for technology. Second, I believe that now is the time my colleagues should learn how to properly use the applications–before the technology is installed. What I don’t want to happen is that computers, cell phones & apps/software magically appear. I think we, as a society, have shirked our responsibility as mentors and guides in this technological age, leaving children to blindly navigate what can be a very confusing and potentially dangerous virtual landscape. Technology that is not demanded by the faculty gets neglected by the faculty, once again creating a vacuum in which students are allowed to explore without understanding the rights and responsibilities of their digital citizenship.
Having my colleagues attend the UNconference will accomplish both goals: they will become excited about what can be done with technology, thereby pressuring the district for resources, and they will be prepared to implement them into their pedagogy appropriately.

Getting passes to this conference would be amazing for our school. I would be able to connect a few teachers to another world. It’s hard to get people to see the amazing value in social networking and conferencing online without showing them first hand. This would be an eye opening experience for them – probably overwhelming. There’s a great chance to change professional lives here — I would be so happy to share this with people!

In our district I would say we have 100 teachers. In my building, I’m thinking we have 30 (new building for me).

I am a Technology Facilitator in a southern inner city school. We have benefitted from a technology grant which provided plenty of hardware and software. Many of my teachers are technology literate. I would like to move our faculty up to web 2.0 and the concepts of cloud computing within the parameters of our district network. I think attendance to the UnConference would be highly beneficial to some of the early adopter teachers who would inturn help me to influence our early majority teachers. Some of what we are doing with digital whiteboards and internet resources is getting stale. I need all the help I can get to keep professional development exciting. The Unconference would be the transfusion I need.

Sending a couple of “un-tech” teachers to the Edtech UNconference would be of great benefit to our district and our goal of increasing our staff technology literacy levels.
Not only am I the Ed-Tech Professional Development person for our district, but I am also the I.T. Director. Often times I hear comments such as; “Integrating technology is easy for you because you are a tech person.” or “I don’t integrate technology because technology doesn’t like me.” Sending a couple of our most un-tech teachers would allow me to accomplish two goals:
1.) Show that you really don’t have to work in the tech industry to integrate technology.
2.) Have these teachers tell their story of how they used this UNconference experience to build their knowledge and in turn share this knowledge with the rest of our technology intimidated staff.

We have around 220 teachers in our district. Since I am representing at the district level, I do not have a break down by school. We have 7 schools and about 78 teachers at our high school.
I am a Business English teacher at a Business School in the Marche Region of Italy. Although the school offers innovative training and development regarding content delivery in L1, the approach to ESL is really low-tech and the ESL team is totally “untech”! It would be a godsend to be able to attend this conference and convince some of my “untechie” colleagues of the value of using technology in teaching – to do this they have we have to know how it works!
Fingers crossed…as the only way I’ll get them on board is if I win these three passes!!!!

(a) There are ten teachers in the ESL team who would directly benefit and over thirty subject teachers and consultants who we would try and get involved.
(b) Marche region in Italy.
I have been in shock. I moved to this community two years ago (from a school with several 21st century classrooms) and joined a school with a low focus on technology. Our new principal is purchasing technology equipment as fast as he can, but the training and use of the technology we have invested in the past has been a shame. Most of the teachers have been using the smartboard as a giant screen if at all. Several teachers would be fired up to learn all the capabilities they will have with their new technology and would be excellent role models for the other teachers, but we have so far to go. Training 3 teachers would be awesome and so much fun for us.

Hello! I’m a new “Technology Integration Specialist” this coming year for my grade 3-5 building. There are approximately 50 teachers in my building and 185 district wide. The opportunity for myself and two (2) others to have this professional development opportunity would be fantastic! Not unlike other districts, the financial outlook is not certain and this chance to get more into the technology loop would touch not only those teachers, but all those we can share with. We have around 40 teachers and 650 students at our middle school. There are approximately 41,000 students in the district and 2,690 teachers in the district. Our school is an urban magnet school with students coming in from 54 private and public elementary schools — from the entire city and metropolitan area. What we do directly affects not just the city and metropolitan area via our students who are diverse geographically, socio-economically, ethnically, and by talent, but the world. We are a Middle Years Programme school (International Baccalaureate Programme)and view our efforts through a global lens.

I LOVE the idea of inviting two non-tech teachers! For years, I’ve been pushing this idea in the districts where I’ve worked, and unfortunately, the people who are selected to go to technology professional development opportunities are the ones who are already fairly tech-savvy. They get very little that they don’t know about, though they may find one or two ways to tweak what they do. I’d love for the people who are open to technology, if only they knew what they could do with it, to go. I’m an integration specialist, and getting these teachers to see what is possible would give me more opportunities to work with them and support them as they try new things. When the less-savvy teachers get excited about what their kids can do now, and how easy it was compared to what they expected, it rubs off, and other people are willing to try things. Getting the opportunity to have access to these great PD resources could make me MUCH busier and expand technology integration throughout the entire district. I want to get people excited about technology! (It’s not all word processing and spreadsheets!) I work in five schools, and we probably have about 150 teachers in the district.
I teach in a relatively small district. As with everyone else in the nation, budget cuts make it difficult to improve technology. Our school however has had the opportunity to buy some smartboards, and we have added many computers. I know there is so much more I could be doing to capture the interest of my students daily in the classroom. Being 10 years old is hard enough, without having a teacher that bores you with the curriculum. I work hard to make it interesteing, but would love to have the opportunity for myself and a few others to learn from the best. Using the latest and greatest would be excellent! There are about 35 certified teachers at my school, as we have just gone through a split to a new school. I am unsure of how may teachers are in the county, there are 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and one high school- so maybe around 300 or so.
These passes would be amazing for my school! I am the computer teacher and over the years the shrinking budget has prevented our school from keep up with technology. Eleven years ago we had state of the art resources and while we have purchased some smartboards, we are struggling to maintain the technology standards necessary for students today. In addition, many teachers at my school don’t even know about all the technology there is out there for them to use. My state has an awesome tech conference, but there’s no way everyone can go. It is my personal goal to get my school into the 21st century with technology and the EdTech UNconference would be an awesome way to start!

One of my goals as Technology Coordinator/Tech Teacher is for our teachers, most of them untech teachers to integrate technology into their classrooms. Many of our teachers rely on the technology to be used in the computer lab rather than as a whole in their classroom lessons, no matter how many in-services we have had about Integrating Technology into the classroom. Our students do so many remarkable things with technology, with ease and deserve to have it expanded into their classrooms. I have already subscribed to the EdTechUNconference so if I should win, I would give all 3 of the free unconferences away to some very untech teachers, and I know that it would make a difference in the lives of our students! We are a small catholic school with only 25 teachers, we just finally got 1 smart board and we are part of the Diocese so I am unsure as to how many teachers are employed by the Diocese because it covers the whole state.

We are both excited and apprehensive as we face our inaugural one-to-one year in the fall at my school. There are a handful of highly motivated edtech-savvy teachers ready to dive in to the new teaching and learning environment, but everyone else has varying degrees of trepidation. The UNconference would be a great resource for both groups of teachers to learn, share, and support one another while we work the kinks out, so to speak.
As an ITRT, I would love to share this opportunity with some of the teachers I work with. They have been working very hard over the last several years to become 21st Century teachers and it would be awesome to see them rewarded with a prize that will only help further that endeavor.
Three simple reasons for Simple K – 12:
1. What good will all this do if higher ed doesn’t get it too?
2. I’m in theatre– too many colleagues have been writing off ed tech just because…
3. I’m in theatre– I’m all about being UNintimidating!
I am participating in a program designed to help me become the technology mentor for our campus and I need all the help I can get. The unconference would be a great way for me to get started and get a couple of my colleagues helping as well.
I’m the Director of Academic Technology at an independent preK-6 school. We have 16 classroom teachers, 12 classroom assistant teachers, 7 specialist teachers, and 6 specialist assistant teachers. Unconference passes would allow teachers to access professional development that encourages technology integration. Each teacher has a smart board in their classroom. Currently, they are woefully underutilized. I would love for three of my teachers to receive support in using technology to enhance their curriculum. Teachers who receive the passes would then be encouraged to pass the information learned onto colleagues through informal sharing, grade level meetings, and small group presentations.
Hi! I recently started work as a tech coordinator at a k-8 charter school in New Orleans. Since its a charter school, its both a school and it’s own district. There are about 30 teachers here. The school offers a foreign language based academic program, and brings in teachers from other countries, which makes it both interesting and challenging for me to integrate technology into teachers’ lesson plans. I would use the unconference to help me gain more knowledge of technology that is out there, as well as how to creatively use these to enhance teachers’ classrooms. I also have the responsibility of teaching a few enrichment classes a week, so I would use the unconference for myself as well. I would handout the other passes to teachers who are bilingual so that they can help me disseminate information to other teachers in the school.
This would be a great resource for my very small school (K-8 – 120 students). I’m the technology coordinator, teacher, etc. and we do not have a lot of resources to train our teachers in technology. What a great resource this would be. It would also help me keep current!
Wow! This would be great for all of us,in my school. We have 10 teacher 3 shared teachers and a tech person that comes from the ESD and is shared with 4 school. We have 40 teachers in are district. We have had 6 teachers received grants for tech training in their classrooms, but the rest of us have had little to no training. I would like the teachers that are in music, PE, shop, and foreign languages to be included in the thought of tech uses in are areas of education and not just the core classroom teachers. I feel that we have a lot to offer and we are so far behind in updating are areas of knowledge, and any help would be most beneficial. We owe this to are students and ourselves to keep up with technology in this century and further.
This would be a great resource for our teachers and students. We are so focused on implementing technology into our classrooms to keep up with the world. The problem is we have all this technology and keep getting more but us as teachers do not know how to use it. What is the use of having it if we cannot use it? This would be a great resource for me and fellow colleges.

Passes to the UNconference would be a huge boost to the morale and skills of our teachers. Our teachers are always willing to share good information with each other so sending 3 will benefit our entire school. We have varying degrees of comfortableness with technology but a willingness to jump into all of the wonderful tech tools that are available, especially the ones that are free or almost free. Access to all of the online lessons will be invaluable for our teachers. The benefit of having The UNconference is a wonderful idea for these times of restricted budgets and no travel allowances. I know that our school would make use of such a wonderful gift.
We have around 150 teachers in our district and I am the only Ed Tech Specialist, so you can imagine I’m pulled in many directions throughout the day. Winning this would help me out tremendously. Our elementary buildings have slowing received SMARTBoards and netbooks while our secondary schools mostly have labs. These teachers need training and there just isn’t enough time in the day for me to help all of them.
Being an “older teacher” and having a technological bypass at birth has certainly been a cumbersome obstacle that has been hard to overcome. It seems like yesterday that overhead transparencies were the “new thing.” You can understand how elated I was when I got my new SmartBoard; the trouble was finding ways to utilize all of its capabilities. I’m still learning. I hope the EdTech UNconference can help with all my technology questions.
We have 57 certified teachers in my building and 233 within the district.
I am switching schools and think there are bout 40 teachers at my site and about 250 or so at all six combined.
This year our district wrote a 3 year technology plan that included an ambitious professional development component. A special bond was passed and we were able to purchase and install 90 Promethean interactive white boards. I have been able to provide some basic training to teachers, but now they need to know how to use these boards for their specific curricula needs and different disciplines. In addition, the teachers need to see how other tech is integrated into the classroom. We have purchased MP3 players and iPads and need to see how they are applied.

First I would like to say that the freebie man video was cute and entertaining along with informative.
In my district as many others some areas are being left out of the technology boom. They focus on the core subjects and us non-essential teachers are being left out and left to fend for ourselves. I am a foreign Language teacher and sinc communication is the key element of FL teaching, upgrading technology and our knowledge would be exciting and benefit our school and community. with the use of technology we could be hands on with our kids in away that would make learning a FL more relevant to them. Considering we live in a financially stressed district/ community they often dont see a need and cant see beyond there four walls. This would open my students up to so many other things on many levels.
Our distric has received technology grants and we do have some smrt boards but the FL dept is left out the loop and we have to be beg, cry and whine to get anything. This would help us out completely.
I’m an istructional supervisor for our county. I would love to use these passes for some of our principals. It’s much easier to get teachers excited about using technology in their classroom if there is understanding and support from their principal. While we have some principals that are tech savvy, we also have some who need a nudge. This would be a perfect opportunity for them. We have around 350 teachers in our system.
This would be an amazing gift to our schools. I am the tech spec for 4 elementary schools and I supervise 4 terrific ladies (Para) who execute our curriculum across the district. In the past 8 years I have worked very hard to get my Para teacher certified and 3 have done so, each moving on to new jobs.
To have this resource to share with the school staff would be a tremendous boost for our tech department. I am thinking we would use them to help develop teacher leaders in each school, so that people do not need to wait for my visit to help themselves out of their technological potholes. These teacher leaders can begin to enhance their own building based, existing, grade or curriculum specific units and work on their own productivity skills, so they are not so terrified by the tools.
Our schools are running on a budget that has been cut by half every year for the last 5 and even our state entitlement grants for professional development are iffy this year. They have been cut from 18K 8 years back to <3K this past year. Our schools average 28 teachers and the district is about 450 total.

I am the computer teacher at a Prek-8 school in a semi-rural town in Connecticut. We have 46 teachers in the school and in the district as we are the only public school in the district. Our high school students go to one of the neighboring towns for high school. As part of my job, I try to function also as a technology facilitator and integration specialist, but since I teach classes directly to grades 3-8 as well, that leaves me limited time to help with integration. Most of our teachers are comfortable using a computer for their own personal needs, but many are stuck in how to really integrate the technology into their curriculum. They also have limited time to explore all the new technologies that keep popping up, let alone filter through to figure out which ones would be most useful and how to best integrate them. Having access to experts who have already explored and continue to explore these ever emerging tools, and have tested their use in education, would help fill a void in our current staff and resources. With budgets for professional development being slashed again for next year, winning three seats at this unconference would be a huge boon to the teachers in our school. We would pick the 3 that are most ready and willing to take on this year long endeavor and would then be willing and able to share their learning with others. We take full advantage of the ‘train the trainer model’ in all our PD endeavors.
I am already looking forward to the conference and have dug around a bit in the offerings. I have become very interested in teaching with technology and have some tech goals for the coming year both for my students (9th grade English Literature classes) and for myself. I expect to learn a great deal within the UNconference and hope to share it with my colleagues. I teach with a very collaborative group of teachers and so far I am techno-adventurist, so I hope to bring a few other teachers along with me on my ride! Being able to share the UNconference with 2 other teachers is a HUGE opportunity as CA has slashed budgets, but we have great need for new skills.

I am the computer teacher at a K-5 elementary school. We have approximately 35 teachers in my school and around 150 in the district. Here in NJ, funds are being cut for training and for teachers. It would be great to have training for teachers in my district so that all teachers would know how to integrate technology in their classrooms.

In New Jersey, as in many other places, budget cuts have really hurt the schools. Money for workshops — registration, travel, food — is pretty much zero. Teachers, like so many other middle class Americans, just don’t have the extra money to be spending on a lot of PD. I for one am maxing out credit cards to help my students. Free passes and zero travel would mean we’d get great professional development the way we need it (and the way so many of us want it more and more…i.e. the “un”conference concept).
Perhaps more important than the alleviation or addressing of the financial hardship issue, the great content and its “round the clock” accessibility would not only promote our growth as teachers but we could do it at our pace. So many of us have such full schedules, classes, day care issues, second jobs….Engaging the presentations on our own time and at our own pace is so very helpful.
Since I (and many teachers I know)make the biggest leaps and bounds in PD during the summer when our schedules are more flexible, the UnConference would make PD a more constant, year-round aspect of our professional lives. Help me help pull my district into the 21st century!!

I’m so excited about this opportunity! I’ve wanted to do SO much more with technology in my classroom, but we have over 600 students in our elementary building and one computer lab. I have 2 very old computers in my room that can’t handle the internet, one that’s a Mac and works fine and then the computer on my desk and that’s it. I have an old LCD projector that I hook up a computer to it, but no white board. We had white boards given to only a select group of teachers and we all didn’t get one, but hope to someday. In the meantime, I know there are a lot of things I can do with my students to get them in the age of technology, be excited about learning and help them to learn in a fun and innovative way! I am so excited about learning myself and I am especially thrilled with the chance to win tickets to the UNconf.!!! How cool is it to have a chance to keep learning all year, get help, be able to go back and review the info., take things step by step and really use it???? :– ) Our school has really been hit with the money crunch this year and we are very limited to resources for our classrooms. I teach in a school with approximately 45 teachers in my building and about 140 teachers in our district.

Would love the passes for the staff at Kaua’i Pacific School – there are four core teachers in this small, independent, progressive project based school. We serve 62 students from Grades PK-6 in intentional, multi-age classrooms. We received a large muti-year School of the Future Grant last year anchored in digital storytelling but we still have a long ways to go and much of the funding has already been earmarked for a technology coordinator and equipment. We have a new principal and it would greatly benefit the teachers and the new principal to participate in this type of learning – we are in such a remote area that is is difficult to have access to high quality training. I am the computer teacher at a high school with 90 teachers and in a district with 7 high schools with approximately 650 teachers. My district does not have a technology coordinator nor district/site tech trainers. If a teacher has an interest in technology they can ask our foundation to purchase it for them or they purchase it themselves. There are no funds to send teachers to technology conferences. I try to attend at least one technology conference each year that I finance. I have personally donated computers to the school so that teachers can run the technology that has been purchased by the foundation. Needless to say there are several technophoic teachers on my campus that I could invite to the unconference that would benefit from the training.
In my school district we have just experienced a reduction in our technology department that has resulted in us having four less technology specialists to help our teachers integrate technology into instruction. We are looking at ways to continue to be effective in helping our students and teachers without the manpower we are use to. Having access to the UnTech UnConference for 3 of us would go a long way in helping to continue the good work we have started. Last year we piloted a technology staff development program at our elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. We could see the impact it had on our teachers’ instruction and hope to continue the momentum this year by including all teachers and schools. Having access to this conference could really help us with our objectives. Currently our district has 2 high schools, 4 middle schools and 16 elementary schools. There are 1110 teachers and 15,064 students.
I am a Language Arts teacher in a school with about 35 teachers. I don’t know how many teachers are in the district…over 2000 I think. I am working a new team this year and we are trying to figure out new ways to incorportate technology into our lessons. I have been experimenting over this year, but it would be nice to be learning with my colleagues. With all the money spent on STEM, it would also be nice to have another Language Arts teacher looking at ways of improving communication skills with technology.
